October 29, 2002: Day 2: 8:00 AM - 9:00
AM: Jack Bauer is back to fight another day as
the acclaimed series opens its second season with a commercial-free
episode. The format is the same — each hour is a separate episode —
but the day now starts at 8 A.M. It's been a year since Jack lost his
wife, and the emotional toll includes estrangement from his daughter
Kim, who is now a live-in au pair for a troubled family. Jack is no
longer with CTU, and no longer interested in that line of work — until
he's summoned directly by President Palmer. The situation: terrorists
have planted a nuclear device somewhere in Los Angeles and plan to
detonate it within 24 hours.
November 5, 2002: Day 2: 9:00 AM-10:00 AM: In
the second hour, Bauer reestablishes his undercover identity to join a
crew of suspected terrorists that may know something about the nuclear
device planted in Los Angeles. He's posing as a career criminal named
Jack Roush, whose only hope in proving his loyalty to them lies in the
package he's carrying. Meanwhile, President Palmer deals with a curious
press, including one particularly skeptical reporter (Michael Holden);
Kim tries to protect Megan (Skye McCole-Bartusiak) from her
father (Billy Burke); and Kate Warner (Sarah Wynter)
follows up on suspicions about her sister's fiancé.
November 12, 2002: Day 2: 10:00 AM-11:00 AM:
Kim makes contact with Jack, who tries to warn the immediate target; a
new lead detours Mason's plans; Kate is asked to remain calm in the face
of disturbing news.
November 19, 2002: Day 2: 11:00 AM-12:00 PM:
Mason makes hard choices to retrieve vital information; Reza (Phillip
Rhys) joins Kate on an errand; Jack gets closer to Wald (Jon
Gries); Kim urges Carla to take a stand for Megan.
November 26, 2002: Day 2: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM:
The afternoon begins with Mason preparing to interrogate an old
adversary and Jack getting more disturbing news from President Palmer.
In other storylines, the president meets with the ambassador of the
country suspected of harboring the Second Wave terrorists; a piece of
information recovered at CTU sends Tony (Carlos Bernard) to the
Warner house to talk to Reza; and Jack finally makes contact with Kim,
who enlists help from her boyfriend Miguel (Innis Casey) to try
to get Megan to safety.
December 3, 2002: Day 2: 1:00 PM-2:00 PM: Nina
tries to set the rules as Jack begins his interrogation of the woman who
betrayed CTU and killed his wife. In other storylines, the president —
dealing with the aftermath of another tragedy — tries to curb
speculation by the media and learns from a surprisingly informed source
that one of his orders has been countermanded; Marie (Laura Harris)
hurls accusations at her sister Kate as Tony continues to question Reza;
Miguel tries to distract Gary at the hospital; and Kim reaches Megan.
December 10, 2002: Day 2: 2:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M.:
Finesse rather than force is required once Jack and Nina reach Visalia;
Palmer directs his Chief of Staff (Jude Ciccolella) to
investigate Sherry's charge; Mason calls his estranged son; Warner and
Reza are taken to CTU.
December 17, 2002: Day 2: 3:00 PM-4:00 PM:
Stanton expresses concern over the presence of Sherry, who offers to
deal with the detained reporter; transit of the bomb is interrupted;
Tony hears a confession from Bob Warner.
January 7, 2003: Day 2: 4:00 PM-5:00 PM: As the
pilots struggle to control their damaged plane, Jack tries to get Nina
to divulge the location of the nuclear device planted in Los Angeles.
But convinced that not telling him is the only thing keeping her alive,
she refuses — even as they're told to prepare for a crash. Meanwhile,
CTU finds the source of the plane's problems; President Palmer learns
the identity of at least one person working against him; Kate is
questioned about her father's files; and Mason reveals his condition to
Tony as they try a different tack in interrogating Warner and Reza.
January 14, 2003: Day 2: 5:00 PM-6:00 PM:
Palmer meets the press to respond to Weiland's report; a tattoo proves a
telling clue about who brought the plane down; Miguel hits on a plan to
delay his and Kim's return to L.A.; Mason counsels Michelle about her
future.
February 4, 2003: Day 2: 6:00 PM-7:00 PM: The
clock was stopped while the thriller took a two-week time-out, but now
the desperate hunt for Syed Ali (Francesco Quinn) is on again. A
traumatized Kate Warner is the only one who can identify him, so she
pulls herself together and takes a lead role in the operation, as Jack
closes in on the terrorist's suspected location. But Kate's credibility
comes under fire when CTU determines that her sister Marie has murdered
her own fiancé. On the president's end of the bomb pursuit, Palmer
makes an out-of-character decision regarding the handling of one of his
betrayers. Meanwhile, Kim hits another snag as she flees from the
authorities.
February 11, 2003: Day 2: 7:00 PM-8:00 PM:
Warner gives some history on Marie, who talks to Kate; Jack explores a
suspect's vulnerability; Mason tells Tony to stop searching for Kim;
Lynne investigates a suspicion about Sherry.
February 18, 2003: Day 2: 8:00 PM-9:00 PM: Kim
finds a level of comfort in her new environs; CTU experiences a power
struggle; an insider reveals that the bomb has more protection than was
previously believed.
February 25, 2003: Day 2: 9:00 PM-10:00 PM: The
bulk of the action in this hour remains at Norton Airfield, where Jack
is warned there's a wild-card player on the scene, and where Kate is
drafted to help interrogate two suspects, who cite different reasons for
their actions. Meanwhile, there's a Palmer showdown, when the president
confronts his ex, who tells her story — or at least a story. At CTU,
Tony assumes command after Mason acknowledges his fate; and Michelle
seems to have a history with the new arrival Carrie (Lourdes
Benedicto) who's replacing Paula. In his cabin in the woods, Lonnie
(Kevin Dillon) continues to dupe Kim about what's really going on
outside his bomb shelter.
March 4, 2003: Day 2: 10:00 PM-11:00 PM: The
planned detonation time is determined; Ali's effects yield clues
regarding the bomb's source; Jack has a conversation with Kim; Palmer
makes a bold move to reassure the public.
March 25, 2003: Day 2: 11:00 PM-12:00 AM: Now
that the bomb has been detonated, the focus turns to determining who is
responsible — and retaliating. Despite CTU's confirmation of the
evidence against the trio of culprit countries, Syed Ali staunchly
denies that the recordings are authentic. This gives Jack cause to plead
with Palmer to hold off the planned military action, but the president
seems in a rush to strike. Meanwhile, another violent incident shakes up
the investigation; Tony and Jack aren't getting along; and Kim finds
herself in yet another fine mess. And remember that missing airport
shooter? Well, he's back and he's making the oddest demand.
April 1, 2003: Day 2: Midnight-1:00 AM: Jack
receives a surprising ally before meeting with the surviving member of
Coral Snake, who explains the purpose behind the bomb; the VP expresses
concern about Palmer's capability; Carrie shares suspicion about
Michelle with Tony.
April 8, 2003: Day 2: 1:00 AM-2:00 AM: Kim
comes clean with the cops; Michelle takes further risks for Jack; the
president moves to curb civil unrest on the East Coast, while facing
pressure to lock in his retaliatory plans.
April 15, 2003: Day 2: 2:00 AM-3:00 AM: Jack's
resolve is tested by a bomber hoping to keep his plan intact; Tony meets
the source of stress between Carrie and Michelle; a presidential
advisor's loyalty is questioned.
April 22, 2003: Day 2: 3:00 AM-4:00 AM:
Dissension plagues several factions in this gripping hour, as the
desperate search for the all-important computer chip that could call off
the military strike intensifies. As luck would have it, the chip falls
into the wrong hands — people who are oblivious to its value.
Meanwhile, Carrie tries to take advantage of Tony after he disobeys
orders to abandon Jack and the chip altogether; one presidential adviser
wavers as another takes a fall; and the unavailability of the vice
president (Alan Dale) piques the curiosity of President Palmer,
who turns to an administration veteran for an opinion.
April 29, 2003: Day 2: 4:00 AM-5:00 AM: Tony
and Chappelle face off over the chip, the status of which Jack reports
to Palmer, whose earlier actions regarding the bomb come to bear in a
meeting with his cabinet; Kim is returned to the scene of a crime after
speaking with Jack.
May 6, 2003: Day 2: 5:00 AM-6:00 AM: Backdoor
dealings, back stabbings and an actual stabbing convolute matters in
this piercing hour, as Jack comes face-to-face with a pair of key
players. One can prove the Cyprus recording is a fake; the other knows
enough to blow the entire case wide open. But both begin to question
their mutual trust when Jack tries to play each against the other.
Meanwhile, a shakedown at CTU puts Jack's quest to rest once staffers
are informed of a major shake-up in DC; Tony learns he has something in
common with Palmer, who lobbies for an ally and talks with a turncoat;
and Jack encourages Kim to put a definitive end to the source of her
problems.
May 13, 2003: Day 2: 6:00 AM-7:00 AM:
Chappelle's unavailability prompts Division to question Tony, who puts
Michelle in position to circumvent their command; Palmer is asked to
perform a final executive action; Jack proposes a deal between
conspirators.
May 20, 2003: Day 2: 7:00 AM-8:00 AM: The
second longest day of Jack Bauer's life finally winds down. And it has
been quite an eventful 24 hours, what with the nuclear threat to Los
Angeles; the bombing of CTU; duplicitous dames Marie Warner and Sherry
Palmer; cringe-inducing tortures; a rapidly climbing body count — and
a presidential coup. Tonight's finale finds an unexpected alliance
formed in a last-ditch effort to take down mastermind Peter Kingsley,
while new information about the villain has an impact on Tony and
Michelle, and the race to halt the ill-conceived air strikes in the
Middle East.
